Arlington Riverside Business Partnership
Businesses Building a Strong Community
Arlington Business Partnership
Arlington, one of Riverside’s original neighborhoods, still retains a village character that harkens back to the community’s founding in 1875.
Arlington was “The City within a City” when it combined with the Riverside Colony to form the City of Riverside in 1883.
The Arlington Business Partnership is responsible for the community and promoting the economy and beautification of the Arlington Business District, thus creating a sense of pride for all who live, work and conduct business in Arlington.
The Arlington Business Partnership envisions our community as an attractive historic destination for unique shopping, dining and retail services.
Great strides have been taken to revitalize this unique and historically significant neighborhood. One of our more successful tools has been the PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM GRANT.
The Arlington Business Partnership offers these grants to property owners and business owners as an economic incentive to enhance existing commercial structures.
A qualified businesses owner or property owner may receive a grant for 50% of the total cost of eligible improvements up to $1,000 each fiscal year.
The Arlington Business Partnership helps bring publicity to new businesses with Grand Opening Assistance. This helps bring new customers to our community and helps local business owners get to know each other.
We are very proud of our branding success with monument signs which welcome people to our business district.
Local artists have been commissioned to create murals to make neighborhoods look more appealing while we wait for new businesses to open.
Stylish and modern bus shelters are proven to communicate a community’s commitment to aesthetics and modernization.
The Arlington Business Partnership has constructed new bus shelters on the busiest traffic areas in our community.
The Arlington Annual Chili Cook-Off and Car/Cycle Show is one of Riverside’s largest community events that continues to grow year-after-year drawing thousands of attendees from all over the Inland Empire contributing to a substantial economic impact.
The event is held along a mile long stretch of Magnolia Avenue. Community members from across the Inland Empire cast votes in The Press Enterprise’s Best of the Inland Empire Reader’s Choice Awards and have voted Arlington Business Partnership’s Chili Cook-off & Car/Cycle Show a Hometown Favorite as the Best Community Event.
Enjoy snow sledding with over 55+ tons of snow. The Winter Wonderland event is sponsored by the Arlington Business Partnership and attracts 5,000 individuals featuring festive and free activities, crafts, entertainment, prizes and photos with Santa,
Every business owner in the shaded area is already a participant with the Arlington Business Partnership, but you can become even more involved by becoming a registered member. You will be invited to our monthly meetings, vote on important matters for our community and maybe even serve as a board member. http://www.riversideabp.com/

John Goolsby said he discovered his passion and talent in filmmaking in the 1980s when he began producing training videos for grocery giant Safeway Stores. Four decades later, the Riverside resident has made more than 3,500 films in 37 countries.
Goolsby is the owner of Godfather Films, where he produces everything from heartfelt wedding videos to thought-provoking documentaries. The recipient of dozens of awards, including multiple Telly Awards, Goolsby has been named one of the Top 25 Event Videographers in the World.
He credits part of his success to the tight-knit community of Riverside.
“Because we have such a close-knit community of business leaders who all seem to enjoy supporting each other while helping our community grow, we seem to grow every year with networking and word-of-mouth referrals,” Goolsby said.
Goolsby said he found his way to Riverside in 1984 by way of Orange County. With three children in tow, he searched for a town that provided affordability and quality of life.
Turns out that Riverside is a great place to live, do business, and raise a family,” he said. “It is a diverse community with all the benefits of a big city, such as shopping, hospitals, and universities along with all the benefits of a small town where you can get to know everybody.”
Over the years, Goolsby said he discovered more than just a family-friendly setting in Riverside. He found a city that attracted an array of businesses and workers — many of whom are in need of a quality filmmaker.
“Riverside is home to tons of large and innovative businesses that utilize video production services for advertising, training, and in-house communications,” he said. “We have so many great customers right here in Riverside and the potential for new customers for our business seems to increase every week.”
The increase in business has also happened during COVID-19 despite the many challenges the pandemic delivered, Goolsby said. He said he found continued success during a challenging time because he adapted to current needs.
<“We heard the word ‘pivot’ a lot during the pandemic, but for businesses like ours, we’ve always been pivoting by staying current with emerging video technology and communication techniques,” Goolsby said. “Adapting to current trends and needs is really nothing new…we just had to do it quicker this time. We’ve been live streaming for years, but right at the beginning of the pandemic we knew we had to add to our arsenal of equipment and the software needed to accommodate more locations and viewers.”
Goolsby and his team also introduced another service to customers over the past year — the ability to quickly request changes to videos.
“Once we have scripted, filmed, and edited a video communication, we send our client an interactive link where they can watch the film on any device and click right on the film to add comments that go right to our editor allowing us to tweak the film to the client’s satisfaction in a fast and time-efficient manner for us and the clients,” he said.
Looking ahead, Goolsby said he’ll continue to look for ways to grow his studio and its services. In the meantime, he enjoys living in the robust City of Riverside where his business is supported.
“You can join the Chamber of Commerce and have unlimited access to business owner introductions,” he said. “You can go have lunch downtown and end up sitting next to the mayor, civic leaders, or fire chief.”
Godfather Films is part of a cadre of growing entertainment and film production companies in Riverside. In fact, the city prides itself as the city of arts and innovation and is a growing venue for film productions.
“Riverside’s thriving arts scene is reflective of our city’s diversity,” said Margery Haupt, arts and cultural affairs manager for the City of Riverside. “We’re proud to see our community members elevate their voices through film, visual arts, performing arts, and literature. We anticipate the creative industries to continue to grow. Art and the creative economy is one of the best ways for economic impact, equity, diversity, and sustainable change in our community.”

Riverside’s La Sierra University celebrated its Class of 2021 on Sunday, June 13, by hosting a graduation event on campus.
The Class of 2021 included 505 graduates, according to the university. Of those, 306 graduates were expected to participate in the drive-thru graduation ceremony, the university’s second since the coronavirus pandemic began.
“That our students, in particular our seniors, have stayed the course and completed their classes, homework, major projects and exams under such conditions is nothing short of a miracle,” La Sierra University Provost April Summitt said in a news release. “We want to honor and celebrate our graduates and rejoice with them as they head off into a future with a bright horizon.”
The event included the opportunity for students to cross a stage and receive their diplomas. Some members of the Class of 2020 were also expected to participate Sunday, as last year’s ceremony did not include the formal conferring of degrees ceremony. Family and friends remained in their vehicles to watch.
